Tennis tournament fan etiquette

Recommendations for a tennis match spectator:

  • During the warm-up, feel free to go to your seat.
  • Players must not be disturbed during the match. You are only allowed to move around the stands when the players are switching sides.
  • Make sure your phone is on silent or turned off.
  • There has to be complete silence when the ball is in play. Clapping or shouting during a point is prohibited.
  • It is not polite to applaud when a player double-faults or commits an unforced error. If an unforced error is preceded by a long and competitive rally, applause is allowed.
  • You must not shout at the players or any referees on the field or make any offensive remarks.
  • If you want to leave before the end of the game, you can do it at the change of sides.
  • If you do not know how to show your support for your favourite player then the best thing to do is to copy or mimic other spectators. This way, the players are empowered by the support and the competition is even more exciting.
